USDT Withdrawal Fees Compared: Tron Is the Expensive One

Short answer

On 2 September 2026, sending USDT over Tron (TRC20) cost 1.5 USDT on Binance, OKX and Bitget, and 0.5 on MEXC — the most expensive route on every one of them. Ethereum (ERC20), which most people avoid on principle, cost 0.3 on Binance, 0.38 on OKX, 0.094 on MEXC and 0.8 on Bitget. BNB Chain and the Ethereum layer-2s cost between 0.01 and 0.15. The withdrawal fee is set per network, not per exchange, and on Binance the gap between its dearest and cheapest USDT route is a factor of 150. Picking the network is worth more than picking the exchange.

Ask anyone which network to use for a USDT transfer and the answer comes back the same: Tron, because Ethereum is expensive. That was good advice once. It is now the most expensive way to move USDT off three of the four exchanges whose fee pages you can read without an account.

These are not estimates. Every figure below was read on 2 September 2026 from each exchange's own published fee table — Binance and OKX and MEXC from their public fee pages, Bitget from its public coin-info endpoint. Withdrawal fees move, so treat the date as part of the number.

Across all four, the ordering is the same and Tron sits at the top of it. Tron costs 1.5 USDT on Binance, 1.5 on OKX, 1.5 on Bitget and 0.5 on MEXC. Ethereum — the network with the reputation for being unaffordable — costs 0.3, 0.38, 0.8 and 0.094 respectively. On every exchange in the table, ERC20 is the cheaper of the two, and on MEXC it is cheaper by a factor of five.

Below those two the fees collapse. BNB Chain is 0.01 on Binance and MEXC and 0.15 on Bitget. Arbitrum One ranges from 0.0033 on OKX to 0.15 on Bitget. Polygon and Optimism land in the same territory. MEXC charges nothing at all on Plasma, and OKX charges 0.0000077 there — a rounding error rather than a fee.

The spread inside a single exchange is the part worth sitting with. On Binance the same withdrawal of the same asset costs 1.5 USDT or 0.01 USDT depending on one dropdown. That is 150 times, and it is a choice made in three seconds by someone who has usually stopped reading by then.

Why the network everyone recommends became the expensive one

Tron's reputation was earned honestly. For years a USDT transfer on Tron cost a fraction of a cent while the same transfer on Ethereum could cost twenty dollars during congestion. That comparison is what most people are still carrying around.

Two things changed underneath it. Tron's fee model prices transfers in network resources that a sender either stakes for or pays for in TRX, and the cost of a USDT transfer there has climbed steadily as TRX has. Meanwhile Ethereum's own fees fell hard, and almost everything that used to be done on Ethereum moved to layer-2 networks where a transfer costs a fraction of a cent.

What an exchange charges you is its own number, not the chain's — it sets the fee, absorbs or pads the difference, and can change it whenever it likes. But four exchanges independently arriving at roughly the same ordering, with Tron dearest and the layer-2s nearly free, is the underlying cost showing through.

What it costs you in practice

On a 1,000 USDT transfer, Tron takes 1.5 and BNB Chain takes 0.01. The difference is 1.49 USDT — real but not painful, and easy to dismiss as not worth the thought.

The arithmetic turns on smaller transfers, which is what most people actually make. On 200 USDT, Tron's 1.5 is 0.75% of the amount. That is seven and a half times the 0.10% taker fee you paid to buy the position in the first place. Someone who moves 200 USDT between exchanges twice a month over a year pays 36 USDT in Tron withdrawal fees and would have paid 0.24 over BNB Chain.

A flat fee is a percentage in disguise, and the smaller your transfer the bigger that percentage is. It is the one cost in crypto that punishes small accounts hardest, and the one nobody quotes when they compare exchanges.

The minimum is a separate trap

Exchanges also set a minimum withdrawal per network, and it does not track the fee. OKX will let you withdraw 1.1 USDT over almost every network it supports — and demands 9.3 over Tron. Choose Tron for a small transfer there and the network is not merely the expensive option, it is the one that refuses the transfer outright.

MEXC's minimums move the same way for different reasons: 0.5 USDT over BNB Chain, 10 over Aptos and Solana, 8 over Ethereum and TON. Binance sets most of its USDT minimums between 3 and 5. None of these numbers are guessable from the fee.

Both figures sit on the same screen at the moment you withdraw, and both are worth reading before you commit — the network dropdown is where the money is, not the amount field.

The network has to match at both ends

The cheap network is only cheap if the receiving exchange accepts it. Send USDT over a network the destination does not support and the funds do not arrive; recovering them ranges from a support ticket to impossible, and no exchange promises the first outcome.

The check takes ten seconds. Open the deposit screen on the receiving side first, read which networks it lists for USDT, and only then go back and pick the matching one on the withdrawal side. Doing it in that order — destination first — is the whole trick, and it is the step people skip because the withdrawal screen is the one they opened.

Coverage is wide enough that this rarely forces the expensive choice. BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism and Solana are supported almost everywhere among the six exchanges we track. Tron is too, which is precisely why it keeps getting picked.

Two of the six do not publish this where you can check it

Binance, OKX and MEXC put their full withdrawal fee tables on a public page, and Bitget serves the same data from an endpoint anyone can call. Any of those four can be verified in a browser in under a minute, which is why the numbers above carry a date and a source rather than a shrug.

Gate and Bybit were not readable the same way on 2 September 2026: Gate returned no public withdrawal fee page at the addresses its fee section points to, and Bybit's deposit-and-withdrawal help article did not load. Both almost certainly show the figures once you are logged in and standing on the withdrawal screen. That is a worse place to learn them, because by then you have already chosen where to hold the money.

It is a small thing and it is not evidence of anything sinister. But a fee you can only see after you have deposited is a fee you cannot compare, and comparing was supposed to be the point.

What to do with this

Stop defaulting to Tron. If both ends support BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Polygon or Optimism, one of those will cost you between nothing and a tenth of what Tron does, and the transfer will confirm just as fast.

Read the fee on the withdrawal screen every time rather than remembering it. These are policy numbers, not laws of nature — an exchange can move one overnight, and the figures in this guide are a snapshot of 2 September 2026, not a promise about next month.
